The Valley City Tennis Association hosted their 15th Annual VC Junior Open tennis tournament July 14-15th, 2023. This USTA sanctioned tournament attracted 51 junior players from North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Divisions included singles and doubles for girls and boys
ages 11-18 years old.
Below are the results for Valley City area youth players:
Boys 12U singles: Beck Dietrich of Valley City took 1st place by winning all
matches in the round-robin play. Gray Kasowski placed 2nd, Joey Sayler
took 3rd and Joshua Sykora placed 4th.
Boys 12U doubles: Beck Dietrich and Gray Kasowski took 1st place by
defeating Joey Sayler and Joshua Sykora 6-1, 6-1.
Boys 14U singles: Quinn Kruger lost to Elijah Lindgren of Sioux Falls 5-8 in
the consolation championship match.
Boys 14U doubles: Cole Haugen and Quinn Kruger took 2nd place, losing
to Thor Cameron of Fargo and Tyler Duffy from West Fargo 3-6, 1-6.
Boys 18U singles: Kai Kringlie took 2nd place going 2-1 in the round robin
format.
Boys 18U doubles: Kai Kringlie and Alex Rogelstad took first going 3-0 in
the round robin format. Kringlie and Rogelstad did not lose a set in the
tournament.
Girls 14U singles: Sara Bierle took 5th place as the consolation champion
by defeating Sara Knie of Aberdeen 8-1.
Girls 14U doubles: Chloe Liebersbach and Sara Beierle placed 2nd, going
1-1 in the round robin. They lost to eventual champions, Anna and Joya
Martian of Bismarck 2-6, 2-6.
Girls 18U singles: Kailee Nielson beat Livia Douglas of Aberdeen 5-7, 6-3,
(10-2) to take 1st place. Georgia Zaun captured the consolation 5th place
title by defeating Skye Nielson 8-2.
Girls 18U doubles: Georgia Zaun and Kailee Nielson captured 1st place by
going 3-0 in their matches. They defeated Livia Douglas and Avery
Tennant of Aberdeen, SD, 6-4, 6-2.
Sponsors for the tournament included VC Park and Recreation, I3G
Media, Centrol Ag Consulting, American Family Insurance and Hi-line
Electric. All proceeds went to support the growth of tennis in the Valley City community,
including programming and facility improvements.
