The Jamestown Post 14 Eagles season ended shortly after playing two games on Wednesday in the class “AA” American Legion State  Baseball Tournament.

The first game played on Wednesday was against the Grand Forks Royals at 2 pm (1 pm local time). Both teams started strong on the bump, but Payton Hochalter got the start and was able to lead his team to a victory while including 13 recorded outs. The Eagles got on the board in the first inning after Brooks Roaldson grounded out, scoring two runs. A double by Mazon Lunzman extended the lead by 3-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

In the top of the 5th inning, Adrian Gonzalez was able to knock in a run to bring the game to 3-1.  But the score would not change the rest of the way and the final score would be 3-1, Eagles victory.  Max Fronk led the team with three hits in three at-bats. Hochhalter collected two hits in three at-bats. Jackson Walters stole two bases. The Eagles also turned three double plays in the game.

The second matchup of the day for the Jamestown Post 14 Eagles would be against the Williston Keybirds that game was played starting at 8 pm (7 pm local time).

In this one the Keybirds would have some very hot bats, getting off to a 10-0 lead by the end of the 2nd inning.  In the first inning, Alex Bloum homered to right field, scoring two runs. Then in the bottom of the 2nd, the Keybirds scored eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Micah Larson singled, scoring one run, and Max Heen singled, scoring one run. Ashton Collings drew a walk, scoring one run, Kaden Finders doubled, scoring two runs, and Conner Ekblad doubled, scoring three runs.

The Eagles would score 4 runs in the top of the 4th to try to initiate a comeback, but the Keybirds would answer in the next half inning with 3 of their own runs followed by one more in the bottom of the 5th to enact the 10-run rule ending the game with a final score of 14 – 4 in favor the Williston Keybirds.

Ashton Collings earned the win for the Williston Keybirds. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out three and walking two. Thomas Newman took the loss for the Eagles. They went 1 and 1/3 innings, giving up nine runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one.

Carson Orr led the Eagles with three hits in three at-bats. Ethan Gall led the Eagles with two runs batted in. Jackson Walters collected two hits in two at-bats for the Eagles.

The Keybirds amassed 13 hits in the game. Heen led the Keybirds with three hits in four at-bats from the leadoff position. Bloum and Ekblad each drove in three runs as well. Finders and Alex Ewert each collected multiple hits for the Willison Keybirds.

This is the end of the 2023 season for the Jamestown Post 14 Eagles.
