CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Day three of the 2023 North Dakota State Class B Legion Baseball tournament was held on Friday with another four games. Langdon Redsox put up two runs in the bottom of the first, three in the third and added three more runs in each of the fifth and sixth inning to knock out the Cinderella of the tourney, the Blacksox of New Rockford. Langdon 9 Carrington 5 (8 innings)
Carrington needed just 3 outs in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 5-1 lead but couldn’t put the Red Sox away until they finally scored 4 runs in the frame to tie the game at 5-5 to force extra innings. Langdon Post 98 got on the board first with a Brady Regner (3-5, 3 runs, RBI, HR) solo homerun in the bottom of the third inning. Carrington would score five straight runs including a 4 run fifth inning. Grady Shipman belted a 2 run homerun (2-5, 3 RBI, 2 homeruns, 2 runs) that scored Jack Erickson (3-4, BB, run, SB) who singled to start the inning. Owen Hagel (1-3, HR, RBI, HBP) smashed a solo homerun 1 batter later off the new scoreboard in left-center field. Hagel was robbed of a 2 run homer in the first inning when Nik Kingzet (Langdon left fielder) tracked down Hagel’s deep fly leaping above the left field fence to take away homerun. Kingzet made 3 more diving catches in the game that took away several more scoring chances for Carrington. Carter Tetrault picked up the pitching win pitching the final 3 1/3 innings allowing just 1 run on Shipman’s solo homerun in the sixth inning. Tetrault struckout 3 batters and allowed just 2 hits. Tied at 5 going into the bottom of the eighth inning Langdon would load the bases with 2 outs when cleanup batter Jack Romfo would make his only hit of the game a big one, ending the game with a walk off grand slam to give the Red Sox a 9-5 win.
