VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Thanks to several tips from the public, the Valley City Police Department released the name of the man found dead in the Sheyenne River along the area of 1000 Riverview Drive on Monday, July 17th.

Valley City Police Chief Phil Hatcher said a photo, captured on a security camera at a local business in Valley City helped police identify 22-year-Branden Elias of Independence, Minnesota.

Hatcher said it may take two weeks or longer to get the official cause of death following the results of an autopsy, but he believes no foul play is suspected in the death of Mr. Elias.

Hatcher said the case remains under investigation and anyone with additional information about Branden Elias is asked to call the Valley City police department at 701-845-3110.

Hatcher thanked the public for their assistance in helping identify Mr. Elias.
