The sixth inning once again proved to be the downfall for Valley City in game one against the West Fargo Aces as the visitors struck for 5 runs in the top of the sixth to steal a 8-4 win from the clutches of Valley City. Valley City sat one out away from escaping into the bottom of the sixth inning with a 4-3 lead before a 2-out RBI triple set in motion for what would prove to be another heartbreaking loss as the Aces poured across four two out runs to seal the win.
Bryson Heck ultimately accounted for six earned runs but it was ultimately the error that led off the sixth inning that led to the inning lasting long enough to get out of hand. Heck was pulled after 5.2IP before Carver Pederson came in to get the last out of the inning before turning over things to Aaron Deaver for the seventh.
Valley City got good performances offensively out of Gavin Gerhardt who went 2-4 with a double and a RBI as Owen Struble and Pederson were able to provide some spark at the bottom of the order with a pair of hits between them and two runs scored.
In game two Robert Fischer would not be denied as he pitched a complete game to haul Valley City to a 3-2 win. Valley City would take a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning after Bentley Thornton laced a two out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to give the Royals a three run advantage.
After being doormat for much of the second game the West Fargo offense would wake up with authority in the top of the seventh leading off the inning with a triple before putting the tying run at third and the go ahead run at second with two out. Fortunately for Valley City a fly ball to center would be just within reach of a sprinting Bryson Heck to end the game as the Royals earned a much needed split.
