Catfish on the Red River are starting to get into the swing of summer. The post spawn phase now has the fish starting to move to a more summerlike mid-river pattern. The best fishing has continued to be in the holes in or near the main current in the middle of the river. Sitting on them for 25 to 30 minutes has been the key to getting the bigger fish.
Goldeye has been the best bait with frogs also showing signs of success and with water temperatures nearing 80 catfish are also starting to take frozen baits.
This Saturday is the Second Annual Moorhead Catfish Tournament at MB Johnson Park. Entry is $120 per boat and they are accepting walk up entries until 7am. This is a fun little one-day event. More information can be found at www. I29classic.com.
