This week, I’ve got to give a shout out to the ND Game and Fish Department! For a guide like me to be able to guide the Missouri River, Devils Lake and now Sakakawea and to have the excellent fishing we do, all I can say is we are spoiled.

Fishing on all three of these bodies of water remains out of control incredible. This week personally, I’ve had the blessing to fish both Devils Lake and Sakakawea. Of course, I get asked which one is better, but I’m not going to get into that argument as right now there is definitely no right answer to that question. I always say, it depends on the time of year.

This year, however, it honestly doesn’t seem to matter. The biggest thing is to get out and go fishing and don’t forget to take the kiddos along.

The depths of where the walleyes are seems to change by day and conditions. On Sakakawea the average starting point would be 12 to 18 feet for numbers of fish. On Devils Lake right now it mostly depends on the wind conditions but focus on structure and weeds. And honestly, any way you like to fish for walleyes will probably catch them right now.
