VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Superintendent Josh Johnson said each year, we re-prioritize our safety and security plans for the upcoming school year. After briefly reviewing the past school year and highlighting our efforts with regards to school safety and security, this summer we will begin planning for 2023-2024. As always, our plan will be designed with input from our district safety committee, administration, school board, and coordinated school emergency response teams. If you have comments, questions, or suggestions for our 2023-2024 School Safety and Security Plan, please send an email or call me or SRO Hagen prior to July 7, 2023.

Review of the 2022-2023 Safety and Security Plan (Complete and Incomplete)

School Drills (Tornado, Lockdown, and Evacuation)
Tours of the Schools with Local Emergency Responders
Communicating with Stakeholders on School Safety
Coordinated Emergency Response Bi-Annual Training
Training for all New Employees
Active Shooter Training for all 7-12 VCHS students
Evacuation Training, including Rally Points and Reunification (Jefferson only)
Security Maps in all Classrooms
New Exterior Door Numbers
New Door Hardware Installed
New Key System
Identify Facility Needs related to School Safety

Johnson said the 2023-2024 School Safety and Security Plan will be communicated with you via email in August before the beginning of the school year. The safety of our students in our schools has been and will continue to be a priority in our school district. We are grateful for the many partnerships that we have in our community, including with the City of Valley City and the School Resource Officer Program.

Meanwhile, the Valley City Public School Board unanimously approved of the amended 2023-2024 school year calendar on Monday, June 19th during their regular school board meeting.

Johnson said the graduation date was updated to May 26, 2024, at 2:30 pm. Below the attachment of the full 2023-2024 approved by the school board.
