Marlyn Halland, age 83, of Valley City, ND, formerly of Tower City, ND, died Saturday, June 10th at SMP Health-St. Raphael in Valley City.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 16th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tower City.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.  Inurnment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Oriska, ND.  An online guestbook and livestream of Marlyn’s service will be available at www.lerudmathias.com

Marlyn Sanford Halland, the son of Nick and Evelyn (Christianson) Halland, was born on January 4, 1940, in Fargo, ND.   He grew up on a farm east of Buffalo.  He attended Buffalo School and graduated in the class of 1958.  On November 12, 1960, he and Janet Lang were married at St. Bernard’s Church in Oriska, ND.  They have celebrated 62 years of marriage.  Marlyn was a member of the Buffalo/Tower City communities his entire life but wintered in AZ from 1985 to 2016.  He was a master of many trades: farmer, heavy equipment operator, salesman, and mechanic.  Marlyn and Janet owned and operated the bar in Tower City for several years.  He made many friends along the way and was a loyal and devoted friend.  His passions in life were visiting friends and family, his antique business, and the buying and selling of Lionel trains.  He also loved the hunt for a good deal at area auction sales.

Marlyn leaves to grieve his wife Janet, his sister Margaret (George) Vollmuth, several brothers- in- laws and sisters- in- laws and many nephews and nieces.  He also leaves behind their faithful feline, Toby.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Obert (Shirley) and Elmer (Rita).
