Don Schaack

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Don Schaack is a scratch tennis player who has a nasty slice, but wait until you see his handcrafted woodwork.

In the spring of 1954, when he was 11 years old, his father, taught him to use a table saw, and he’s been at it for nearly 70 years. He loves working with up to 43 different species of wood. You can see his handcrafted woodwork inside Bridgetown Imprints Front Street Gallery located on 2nd Street Northwest in Valley City. Schaack graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Industrial Arts, he also played on the UND tennis team for three years as a walk-on athlete. He then served in the U.S. Army for three years before returning to Valley City working as a carpenter. He retired from Valley City State University in 2010.
