Richard “Dick” Moritz, age 91, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, June 2 nd at the North
Dakota Veteran’s Home in Lisbon, ND. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 9 th at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and one hour before the Mass on Friday morning. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.

Richard Bernard Moritz, the son of Bernard and Ann Mary Moritz, was born November
1, 1931 in Jamestown ND. He grew up on the family farm south of Eckelson, ND and attended Eckelson School. Richard joined the Military in 1952 and served in the Korean War. He returned and shortly after, met the love of his life Joanne Radtke. After a short time living in Eckelson the couple resided in Valley City where Richard worked hauling fuel for the Farmers Union for over 20 years while raising 5 children, Ben, Roxanne, Dennis, Paul, and Tammy. He then took a job with the Barnes County Highway as a motor Grader operator until his retirement. Richard’s passion was hunting and the enjoyment of refurbishing guns. In September of 2017 Richard
became a resident of the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND.

Richard is survived by his sons, Kevin (Jeryl) Vannurden, New Brighton, MN, Ben (Joni) Moritz, Bluffton, SC, Dennis (Leora) Moritz and Paul Moritz, Valley City, ND; daughters, Roxanne Trzpuc, (Rick Tessin) Hillsboro, ND and Tammy (Chris) Miller, Mandan, ND; one sister Maryann Winkler, Valley City, ND, one brother in law, Dennis (Becky) Radtke, Lake Havasu, AZ; grandchildren, Amy and Holly Vannurden, New Brighton, MN, Rick (Julie) Moritz, Moorehead City, NC, Rocky Trzpuc,(Mandy) Gardner, ND, Rusty (Lexi) Trzpuc, Livingston, MT, Ryan (Michelle) Trzpuc, Dazey, ND, Rachel Trzpuc (Cole DeVoogdt) Devils Lake, ND, Tyler (Kacie) Miller, Michael (Alyssa) Miller, and Nicholas Miller, all of Mandan, ND, Aaron(Molly) Moritz, Fargo, ND and Noah Moritz, Valley City, ND; step grandchildren Ashley Critelli, Justin (Jessica) Critelli, Bluffton, SC; great grandchildren, Luke Moritz, Jayden and Emma Trzpuc, Madison Trzpuc, Parker and Lila Trzpuc, Brooklyn Trzpuc, Emery and Lorence Miller, Karsyn Miller; and step great-grandchildren, Jaiden and Jackson Critelli, Devin Anderson, Madilynn Schneider, Wyatt, Colton and Ashlynn DeVoogdt.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Joanne; parents Bernard and Anna; and brothers Lee and Romaine.
