Jamestown, N.D (NewsDakota.com)—-The top 2 seeds in the West region tournament were fighting for a trip to the state tournament and it was a one sided affair with Jamestown blanking Dickinson 8-0. The Blue Jays entered as the top seed were defeated by Mandan in the semifinals but took advantage of some early Dickinson miscues with 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the first. Payton Hochhalter and Tyson Jorissen had RBI singles, and Jorissen scored later after a throwing error when he was stealing third base. Mason Lunzman also scored to start the inning after reaching on an error to start the inning.
Lunzman wasn’t even close to being done for the day as he pitched 7 shutout innings and didn’t allow a hit until Davin Seibel singled with 1 out in the fifth inning. Lunzman recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed 3 hits overall. The Midgets had one big scoring threat in the sixth inning but left the bases loaded when Lunzman got a groundout off the bat of Kaeden Krieg to end the inning. Lunzman went 2-4 at the plate, scored 2 runs, 2 RBI, and added 2 stolen bases. Hochhalter finished 2-3 with an RBI, and a run scored. Jackson Walters finished 1-3 with 3 RBI, included a bases loaded walk and a 2 run single in the second inning. Brooks Roaldson went 1-2 and scored twice aiding the Blue Jays offense. Dickinson entered the tournament as the 2 seed and finishes the season with a 16-8 overall record and the Blue Jays improved to 17-4 and will advance to the state A baseball tournament next week in West Fargo.
