Devils Lake took advantage of five Hi-Liner errors to emerge with an 8-4 victory in Valley City as the Hi-Liners are still sat on one win this season. In a game where both sides recorded eight hits on the day it truly was the play in the field that shaped the outcome of the game.

In the top of the 6th inning three runs came across to score after the Hi-Liners failed to turn a double paly, including a pair that came across after one of many Valley City errors. Five of the eight runs that Devils Lake pushed across came as a result of a fielding error, or a runner that was on base due to a fielding error.

The silver-lining to this disappointing defeat is that the entirety of the Hi-Liner senior class produced a memorable moment for senior day. Gavin Gerhardt tallied two hits, and an RBI while coming around to score twice. Both Broden Muske and Max Mehus tallied singles on the day with Muske driving in a run. Kai Kringlie also made an impressive sliding catch in centerfield to end the top of the 1st inning.

But it was Robert Fischer who had the most standout day, as he only allowed two earned runs across nearly five innings of work as he did everything in his power to keep his team in the game. Ben Larson though was more than solid on the mound for the Firebirds as he pitched a complete game allowing three earned runs, and striking out eight Hi-Liners on the day.

The Hi-Liners will conclude their season on Saturday in West Fargo against the Sheyenne Mustangs at 11:00am.
