The Valley City Hi-Liner girls tennis team knocked off the reigning state champion Fargo Davies Eagles in EDC play 5-4r.
The depth of the Hi-Liner tennis program shown through in this match with clutch performances coming from all-ranks. After dropping their first two singles matches of the day it was was Kailee Nielson and Georgia Zaun pulling the Hi-Liners even on the day with a pair of straight sets victories before Skye Nielson victory secured a 3-3 split for Valley City in the singles matchups.
After Breck Sufficool and Abby Martineck dropped the opening doubles matchup of the day, their teammates were there to pick them up with a pair of wins in doubles two and three to secure the 5-4 match win. Head Coach Matt Nielson had this to say about his number two and three doubles teams.
“At number two and three doubles, we played the best we have played all season by far. Georgia and Kailee looked comfortable and confident together and never let their opponents into the match. Abby and Skye also worked amazing together finished off their match strong.”
The Hi-Liners will be in Grand Forks today to take on Red River at 4:30pm, with a win putting the EDC regular season title on the line for their Friday matchup against West Fargo Sheyenne.
