The Valley City Hi-Liners Softball team slugged their way to a 10-7 win over the Grand Forks Central Knights, to secure their spot in the upcoming EDC Playoffs.
It was a strong start for Valley City as they raced out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning sending all nine batters to the plate before Central could record all three outs. Hadley Thoreson came up big in the first inning with a two-run single.
In the top of the second Central would come back strong powering five runs across in the top half of the inning, led by a pair of doubles off the bats of Kharleigh Larson and Kaitlyn Raaum. The Hi-Liners would tie the game in the bottom half before both teams traded zeros in the third.
Late in the game the Hi-Liner bats would explode for five runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings. Three of these runs came off the bat of Kailee Sufficool who finished the day 2-4 from the plate.
With the score resting at 10-7 in the top of the seventh, Central would have a runner on first with one out before Sydney Larson generated a pair of weak contact outs to end the ballgame. With the win Valley City now improves to 5-5 overall and sit at 10-10 in EDC play. The Hi-Liners will now sit back and wait to see who they draw in the Quarterfinals of the EDC Playoffs which are set for Tuesday May 23rd.
