CRETE, Neb. (jimmiepride.com)– The Jimmie baseball team had their season come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 6-5 loss to Briar Cliff (Iowa) University in the GPAC postseason tournament.

Jamestown finishes the season with an overall record of 27-19, while the Chargers improve to 23-25.

Triston Madison drove in the first run of the game for UJ with a one-out double in the top of the first, scoring Xander Orejudos after Orejudos had reached on a single. Briar Cliff responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, including a two-run single by Cam Reimer.

The score remained 3-1 until the top of the fifth as the Jimmies rallied for three runs. With Orejudos at second and Troy Berg at third, Madison reached on an error by the BCU shortstop, allowing both runners to score and tie the game at 3-3. Alex Alva came on to run for Madison, who ended up at second on the previous play, and scored on Jordan Singleton‘s single up the middle.

UJ’s lead was short-lived as Jake Allen led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run to make it 4-4, then Quinten Evers RBI single gave Briar Cliff the lead three batters later. The Chargers added another run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-4 lead into the ninth.

Julian Romero started the ninth with a pinch-hit single and moved to second on a one-out single by Madison. One out later, Hayden Brown singled up the middle to bring home Romero and make it a one-run game. However, the Chargers were able to record the final out and hand UJ its second straight one-run loss.

Jamestown finished the game with 13 hits, including two each by Madison, Orejudos, and Berg. Payson Mills (2-5) allowed five runs (four earned) in four innings to take the loss. Brett Sitzmann (2-3) went six innings for BCU in the win before Carter Schorg struck out eight in the final three innings to pick up his first save.
