The Valley City Hi-Liner Tennis and Softball teams both had successful afternoons against Shanley yesterday.

On the softball diamond it was an offensive slugfest on both sides that saw both teams combine for 33 runs with the Hi-Liners emerging as 19-14 victors. Next up for the Hi-Liners softball team will be a matchup Thursday with Grand Forks Red River.

On the tennis courts it was another impressive afternoon for the Hi-Liner tennis program as they grinded out a 6-3 win against Shanley. The day started with the Hi-Liners dropping their top three singles matchups , only to bounce back with singles victories from Kailee Nielson, Georgia Zaun, and Abby Redfearn.

Valley City then swept through Shanley in the doubles matchups as the teams of Sufficool/Martineck, Ingstad/Zaun, and Nielson/Redfearn all win in straight sets against their opponents. Head Coach Matt Nielson said that “we went with a different line-up today to try something new and it worked. All three of our doubles teams have never played a high school match together and all three teams won in straight sets. Overall it was a great team win.”

Next up for the Hi-Liners will be a matchup with the Fargo South Bruins on Thursday, with a start time of 4:00pm.
