JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay softball team grabbed two wins in the WDA on Wednesday afternoon as Jamestown swept Mandan in a doubleheader.

GAME ONE: JAMESTOWN 9, MANDAN 3

Jada Walter drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning as the Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first. An RBI double from Rylee Joseph in the second made it 3-0 Blue Jays, and the score stayed at 3-0 until Mandan scored two runs in the top of the fourth. With the score at 3-2, Jamestown would score four runs in the fifth, including two off an RBI double from Katie Falk. Leah Trumbauer also drove in two runs in the fifth, and the Jays would tack on two more in the sixth to get a game one victory.

Falk picked up the win in the circle, going five innings, allowing just one earned run, and striking out five. Makenna Nold shut the door in relief, striking out six Mandan batters without allowing a hit.

GAME TWO: JAMESTOWN 16, MANDAN 6 (6 INNINGS)

11 runs over the first three innings of play helped the Blue Jays jump all over Mandan in game two. The Braves scored five runs in the fourth to make it 11-6, but Jamestown would push five runs of its own across in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up a mercy rule victory. Addison Graves, Ella and Katie Falk all had two hits in the win. Freshman Avery Graves hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth, her second home run of the season.

Nold got the win on the rubber for Jamestown, going five and a third innings, striking out nine, and giving up one earned run.

The Blue Jays (9-7, 6-2) travel to Minnesota this weekend for games in Little Falls and Alexandria. Jamestown returns to conference play on Tuesday at Legacy.
