New Rockford, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-Kael Kovar pitched six solid innings allowing one unearned run, 2 hits, and struck out 8 Mustang batters to pick up the win. Kovar also went 1-3 at the plate and drove in one of the three Cardinal runs in the fifth inning. Kovar added a pair of stolen bases and scored the second of the three runs in the fifth inning on Tate Wolsky’s (1-2) RBI single.  Wolsky would score the final run of the inning on a Jack Erickson (1-3) RBI double.

Connor Kosiak had three of the Mustangs four hits going 3-4, scored both of South Borders runs, and added 4 stolen bases. Berkeley Frantz had the other hit for the Mustangs, an RBI single in the seventh inning that cut Carrington’s lead to 3-2. The Mustangs would leave 2 runners stranded on base in the final inning. Jace Nitschke took the loss on the mound but pitched very well, including retiring the first 10 batters he faced to start the game. Grady Shipman’s 1 out single in the fourth inning was the first baserunner of the game for Carrington. Nitschke would strikeout the next 2 batters before allowing the the 3 Carrington fifth inning runs. South Border dropped to 1-4 overall on the season and also 1-4 in Region 3 play. Carrington improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in Region 3 play. The Cardinals will host Sheyenne-New Rockford Thursday afternoon at the Carrington city park with a 4:00 start.
