The Valley City Hi-Liners baseball team falls to 0-3 on the year as they were shutout by the Fargo North Spartans by a final score of 4-0.

After a scoreless first inning by both sides the Spartans used patience to push across two runs in the bottom of the second as they drew five walks in the second frame to take the early advantage. Both teams again were held scoreless in the third inning before a couple of defensive lapses in the fourth inning allowed for two more runs to score.

The main positive takeaway for the Hi-Liners was the performance of Robert Fischer on the mound who came in for relief of starter Bryson Heck. Fischer allowed only one earned run across four solid innings of work as he was able to change speeds effectively and limit the opportunities for the Spartans late in the game. Overall the Hi-Liners pitching staff limited the Fargo North squad to only four hits on the day, as the staff continues to take steps in the right direction.

The Hi-Liners mustered a pair of hits in the ballgame with the first coming off the bat of Jack Samuelson who laced a double off the left field wall in the fifth inning. The final hit for the Hi-Liners was a single back up the middle by shortstop Max Mehus.

The next game for the Hi-Liners will be a Friday road showdown against Shanley at 5:00pm.
