ABERDEEN, S.D. (jimmiepride.com)– The Jimmie softball team split a doubleheader against Dordt (Iowa) University Thursday afternoon at Koehler Hall of Fame Field in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Defenders took game one 5-2 and Jamestown won the second game 6-1.
Game 1:
Dordt jumped on the scoreboard first, taking advantage of three Jimmie errors to score two runs. In the bottom of the inning, Samarah Martinez and Maddie Spaeth reached on back-to-back Defender errors with one out. Mackenzie Lefebvre doubled to left center, bringing in Martinez and Spaeth to tie the game at 2.
The Defenders broke the tie in the top of the fourth, using four hits and a pair of walks to take a 5-2 lead.
Lefebvre was 3-for-4 with three doubles and both UJ RBIs.

Ally Battistoni drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double to snap a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third. Battistoni’s double found the left center field gap and allowed Gregg and Chin to easily score.
Samarah Martinez added to UJ’s lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, and a fielding error on Lefebvre’s ground ball to second brought in two more runs to make it 6-1.
Hailey Schaefer (7-2), who struck out six in 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in the opener, went the distance in the circle. She struck out nine in seven innings and did not issue a walk.
Gregg was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs from the leadoff spot, and Martinez finished 2-for-4.
