DENVER (FEMA) – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved $3.7 million in Public Assistance funding for COVID-19 and severe winter storm and flooding repairs in North Dakota. This FEMA funding is pursuant to the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.
The North Dakota Department of Health received $2.5 million in FEMA funding for COVID-19 emergency protective measures. This amount represents 100 percent of the project’s total cost. FEMA has provided more than $234 million in Public Assistance funding for the North Dakota COVID-19 major disaster declaration issued April 1, 2022.
A severe April-May 2022 winter storm in North Dakota damaged power infrastructure in parts of two counties. The Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative, Inc. received more than $1.1 million in FEMA Public Assistance funding to repair the damage to the power distribution systems caused by high winds and freezing rain accumulation. This FEMA funding represents 75 percent of the total costs of the repairs with the remaining cost share the responsibility of the State of North Dakota and the Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative, Inc. This assistance was made available under a major disaster declaration issued July 13, 2022.
