JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A seven-run sixth inning in game two of Wednesday night’s doubleheader between Jamestown and Midland helped the Jimmie softball team to a split against the Warriors.

GAME ONE: MIDLAND 4, JAMESTOWN 0

The Jimmies didn’t record a hit off of Midland ace Aliyah Rincon until the fifth inning as Midland shut out Jamestown in the opening game of the doubleheader. Rincon struck out nine Jimmie batters, allowing just three total hits. Sunny Halsey was handed the loss in the circle for Jamestown despite allowing just three earned runs and striking out nine.

GAME TWO: JAMESTOWN 9, MIDLAND 5

Clutch hitting in key spots led the Jimmies to a victory in game two of the doubleheader. UJ trailed 5-2 entering the bottom of the sixth. Ally Battistoni led off the inning with a four pitch walk, leading a pitching change for the Warriors. Megan Neiles and Kayla Quintanilla singled off the new pitcher Paeton Coler with Quintanilla driving in Battistoni to make it 5-3.

A Midland error loaded the bases with nobody out and freshman Reece Floyd delivered the game-tying RBIs on a single into right field. Midland turned the ball back over to Rincon, this time out of the bullpen, to try and stop the bleeding. The Jimmies would load the bases once more and with two outs, Mackenzie Lefebvre cleared the bases with a double to left field. UJ would tack on one more run after Battistoni doubled in her second at-bat of the inning.

Haley Schaefer, who came in during the sixth inning in relief, would shut the door on Midland in order in the seventh to earn her sixth victory in the circle this season.

The Jimmies, now 22-18 overall and 9-9 in the GPAC, travel to Aberdeen on Thursday to face Dordt in another GPAC doubleheader. Jamestown returns home Saturday to face Morningside to wrap up the regular season. Game one is set for a 1:00 PM first pitch.
