VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Our facilities should match the quality of education we have in Valley City, that was repeated during the school district’s facility advisory committee meetings earlier this month.
About 80 people from the school district and community, young and old alike, provided input on the future direction of school facilities.
School board member Darren Anderson said one thing was clear, the school district must come up with a plan to improve the current facilities.
Anderson said we need to educate our legislators on the importance of updating smaller and older school district facilities across the state.
Valley City Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson said, right now, we are working to formalize a facility plan that will be proposed to the school board in the next two months. He said this proposal will likely include a call for a “building referendum,” a school district vote on funding for school facilities, and two, the pursuit of state funding for school construction.
During the April 19th school board meeting, Johnson talked about a group of school districts including Valley City, that are pursing a collaborative effort to ask for state funding for future school construction projects due to the high cost of new construction.
