VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Lewis Legge makes his own syrup extracted from trees in the area.
Recently, Legge gave a demonstration to Jefferson School students in Valley City. He told them that he extracts tree sap about this time of the year. Then he patiently collecting 50 gallons of sap, he uses his outdoor boiler to process one gallon of syrup.
Legge said the whole extraction and boiling process is similar to the one Native Americans have used for centuries.
