JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Spring sports season finally seems to have some momentum across the state of North Dakota as Blue Jay baseball, soccer, and softball all were in action on Tuesday night.
BASEBALL: JAMESTOWN 12, MINOT 2 (Six Innings)| JAMESTOWN 11, MINOT 8
Jamestown’s High School baseball team improved to 6-0 on the year with a pair of key wins over the Magi in Minot. The Blue Jays tallied 16 hits in game one, a run rule victory in six innings. Mason Lunzman, Jackson Walters, and Max Fronk all had three hits in the opening game. Walters drove in three runs and pitched the sixth inning. Lunzman earned the win on the rubber in the opener, going five innings, striking out seven without allowing an earned run.
The bats stayed hot in game two as Jamestown scored seven runs in the first inning. The Jays had to hold off a late push by Minot, but Adam Sortland closed the door with an inning and two-thirds of relief out of the bullpen. Payton Hochhalter earned the victory in game two. Lunzman and Carson Orr led Jamestown at the dish as the seniors had two RBIs each. Jamestown travels to Dickinson for a doubleheader next Tuesday.
SOCCER: JAMESTOWN BLANKS DICKINSON, WINS FIRST CONFERENCE GAME 4-0
After drawing with St. Mary’s to open the regular season last weekend, Blue Jay girls soccer dominated from start to finish in 4-0 win over Dickinson in the home opener Tuesday night. Jamestown improves to 1-0-1 on the year and in the WDA and will travel to Mandan on Thursday to face the 1-0-0 Braves. Full stats were unavailable at the time of posting.
SOFTBALL: BISMARCK HIGH 6, JAMESTOWN 3 | JAMESTOWN 14, BISMARCK HIGH 3
After a slow start in game one, Blue Jay softball bounced back in game two to split the doubleheader against the reigning state champions. Jamestown, now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the WDA, heads to Dickinson this weekend for an invitational before returning to Trapper Field for the first home games of the year next Tuesday against Mandan.
