SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (jimmiepride.com)– The Jimmie baseball team split a doubleheader against Dordt University Monday evening, losing 4-3 in the opener and winning 9-1 in game two.

Game 1:
The Jimmies scored a pair of unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead after the first inning. Alex Tolbert extended the UJ lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a double that scored Jordan Singleton.

Stat Leaders:
Singleton and Xander Orejudos both finished 3-for-4 at the plate.
Isaiah Roebuck swiped a pair of bases.
Luke Zimmer took a no-decision after giving up two runs on four hits in six innings while striking out seven.

Game 2:
Dordt led 1-0 as the Jimmies came to bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and Alex Tolbert at second and Ben Patton at first, Troy Berg reached on an error by the Defender second baseman. Tolbert scored from second base and Patton advanced to third. Berg stole second to put a pair of runners in scoring position, but Dordt escaped the threat.

Hayden Brown‘s two-run homer in the bottom of the third extended UJ’s lead to 3-1, then Alex Alva singled in one run and later scored another to make it 5-1 going into the sixth. Jordan Singleton, Brown, Trent Peters, and Kendall Yackley each drove in a run as Jamestown tacked on four insurance runs to pad the lead to 9-1 going into the top of the seventh. Michael Demand retired the Defenders in order to finish out the game.

Stat Leaders:
Ben Patton went 3-for-4 with a double; Brown was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored; and Yackley also had two hits.
UJ stole nine bases, with Berg racking up three and Alva two.
Payson Mills pitched six innings and gave up one run on four hits to get the win.

Next Up:
The Jimmies will finish their series with Dordt on Tuesday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.
