JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For the fourth time in five seasons, the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team is moving on to the final site as the Jimmies defeated Peru State, 95-88, in the pod championship.
The Jimmies found a rhythm on offense early in the first half, putting up 47 points as Cole Woodford and Mason Walters combined for 27 in the opening half. The Jimmies lead by 10 at the break as both sides shot 50% or better from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
Jamestown extended its lead to 20 points within the opening four minutes of the second half. The Bobcats didn’t go down quietly though, charging back over the course of ten minutes to make it 81-78. After a Peru State timeout, the Jimmies would go on a 10-1 run in less than three minutes to claim the pod championship.
Walters scored 30+ points for the second consecutive game and the 12th time this season. Walters ended with 35 points and seven rebounds on 14-of-18 shooting in his final game in Jamestown. Marc Kjos had a season-high 20 points and Will Cordes added 15 points. Woodford ended the night with 13 points and recorded his 56th steal of the season in the win.
The Jimmies (27-6) head to Kansas City for the Round of 16 and the rest of the national tournament. Game time is set for Tuesday, March 14th at 5:00 PM against Indiana Tech.
