Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Medina-Pingree-Buchanan (MPB) Thunder knocked of Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock (LHMB) Lions 47-39 and the Ellendale Cardinals defeated Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier (EKM) Rebels 68-46 to advance to the Region 3 championship on Thursday night. EKM and LHMB will play for third place on Thursday night.

MPB Thunder  47     LHMB Lions  39

The Thunder would finally breakout offensively in the fourth quarter scoring 21 points to defeat LHMB by 8 points, 47-39. A low scoring first three quarters had MPB leading 18-16 at halftime and tied at 26-26 after three quarters. Josh Moser and Rylen Wick combined to score 16 of the Thunder’s 21 fourth quarter points. Moser scored a game high 20 points and 9 rebounds to pace the Thunder offense. Wick added 17 points and 6 rebounds. Gage Magstadt added 8 points and 3 rebounds for MPB. The Thunder would also connect on 8-9 from the free throw line aiding the win.

The Lions were paced by Jace Jochim with 11 points and Gentry Richter finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Trace King added 8 points and a game high 9 rebounds. MPB held the Lions to 31% shooting, 15-49 from the field. LHMB dropped to 14-9 overall and MPB improved to 20-4.

Ellendale Cardinals  68     EKM Rebels  46

Jack Bommersbach had a great night for the Cardinals scoring a game high 24 points which included 4 of 6 from behind the arc, 4-4 on free throws, and added a game high 5 steals.  Riley Thorpe added 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists for the Cardinals. Cole Sayler, Levi Reis, and Anton Geller all added 9 points for Ellendale. Geller added a game high 13 rebounds and 7 assists, setting up several easy baskets for his Cardinal teammates. The Rebels were led by Jacob Nitschke with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Joe Kramlich added 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Zeke Barnick added 12 points and 6 rebounds for the Rebels. EKM dropped to 13-10 overall and Ellendale improved to 14-9 overall (21-2), 7 of the 9 losses were forfeits in games the Cardinals had won.

Thursday nights games at the Jamestown Civic Center will start at 6:00 with the third place game between EKM and LHMB. Championship game will follow at approximately 7:45. Pregame will start around 5:45 on Thunder 98.3, AM 1220 KDDR (THE TORNADO), and www.newsdakota.com
