JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Rebels of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier won their first district five championship since 2016 Tuesday night, by defeating the defending district five champs the Loboes of Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 56-53. Also, Carrington and Ellendale punch their tickets to the Region 3 tourney with victories, here are the results:

Carrington 77  Barnes County North 54 (Region 3 qualifier)

The Carrington Cardinals were down by 15 points in the second quarter, but they close out the quarter on a 10-0 run and cut the gap to 32-27 at the break. Carrington had a huge third quarter, outscoring the Bison of BCN 26-9, taking a 53-41 lead and never looked back. Carrington shot 61% from the field, BCN 35%. The Cardinals were sparked by Senior Hudson Schmitz with a game high 28 points, including 16 points in the third quarter. He hit his 1,000th point in the fourth quarter as well. Jack Erickson added 18, Grady Shipman 15 and Josh Bickett with 10. BCN was led by three Juniors, Oliver Hanson with 18, Jonah Harstad with 13 and Will Schwehr added 12. BCN ends their season at 8-12 overall, Carrington improves to 13-9 overall.

No. 8 Ellendale 77  Griggs/Midkota 49 (Region 3 qualifier)

The Ellendale Cardinals made 15 treys and had three players in double figures as they roll over the Titans of GM and qualify for the Region 3 tourney that starts Monday in Jamestown at the Civic Center. Riley Thorpe led the way with 25 points, Mason Molan added 17 and Anton Geller had 16 points, six assists and four steals. Both Thorpe and Molan hit five 3-pointers. Ellendale shot 51% from the field, GM 34%. GM was led by Wyatt Spickler with nine. GM ends their season at 9-13 overall, No. 8 in the state and the number one seed in the tourney, Ellendale, improves to 12-9 overall.

EKM 56  LLM 53 (championship)

In a wild finish, Lamoure/Litchville/Marion’s Max Musland hit a 3-pointer to tie the contest at 53 with eight seconds left. Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier would go the length of the court and Braeden Kinzler would hit a three pointer at the buzzer to win it. Leading the way for EKM was Joseph Kramlich with 15, Kinzler ended with 12, Jacob Nitschke added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Dylan Carlson 11. LLM was led by Musland with a game high 29 points, including five 3-pointers, Colton Ness added 14. EKM is now 12-9 overall, LLM drops to 13-9 overall.
