JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Jamestown Police Department received a report from a victim who lost their wallet or had it stolen from their vehicle in the 600 block of 1 Ave S, in Jamestown. The wallet went missing sometime on February 13, 2023. A credit card from the wallet was later used to attempt a purchase at a local Jamestown Store.

On February 23, 2023, a 2nd victim reported having their wallet stolen from their vehicle in the 200 block of Business Loop West, sometime during the evening on February 22, 2022. The wallet contained the victim’s credit card, which was later used to make a purchase over $1000 at a local Jamestown Store.

During the investigation, it was determined both the purchase and attempted purchase was made at the same store, by the same individual, using the 2 stolen credit cards. Based on video surveillance, a suspect was identified by police. On February 24, 2023, the suspect was located at a residence in Jamestown and taken into custody. Some property which was purchased using the stolen credit card was also seized.

34-year-old Cory Douglas Lamont of Jamestown has been arrested on suspicion of the following (6) felony offenses:

Unauthorized use of personal identifying information to obtain credit over $1000 (B Felony)
Attempted unauthorized use of personal identifying information to obtain credit (C Felony)Unauthorized use of personal identifying information to obtain credit which is a 2nd or subsequent offense (A Felony)
Unlawful entry into a vehicle to commit a crime (C Felony)
Theft of lost or mislaid property/credit device (C Felony)
Theft/take credit device (C Felony)

Lamont was taken to Stutsman County Corrections, where he awaits formal charges. The investigation into these incidents and similar incidents are on-going and further charges are possible.
