Nicholas Poitra
SHEYENNE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com/KFGO) – A man wanted for murder after a shooting at a Sheyenne bar, and was considered armed and very dangerous, has been arrested and is in custody.
According to the Benson County Sheriff’s Office, Nicholas Poitra was apprehended by law enforcement and taken into custody.
Poitra, 45, has been on the run since Sunday when he is accused of fatally shooting Troyal Thumb, 30, at Rindy’s Bar. The two were acquaintances and had an argument prior to the shooting.
According to the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, Poitra stole a vehicle at gunpoint as he left the bar. The vehicle was found abandoned near a farm in Wells County. The farm was searched, but nobody was home. A number of firearms were found at the farm, but it is unknown at this time whether any of those guns were taken.
A warrant was issued for Poitra’s arrest Tuesday.
Poitra is facing 11 charges including murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, seven counts of terrorizing, and robbery.
