VALLEY CITY, ND  (Submitted by Viper Hockey)  It took an extra period and an unfortunate bounce to down the Valley City Vipers squirt hockey team in the championship game of the 64 team Squirt International tournament last weekend in Fargo, ND.  After going 5-0 to earn their spot in the championship game the Vipers would fall 2-3 in overtime to Woodbury, MN, a team that boasted a 24-1 record coming into the tournament.  The Vipers would place second at the international tournament; the best finish ever by a Valley City squirt team.

Brody Kalbrener, Gray Kasowski, Riggs Kasowski and Kayson Ziemba would pace the Vipers offense all weekend as they’d combine for 30 goals and 24 assists in the six games.  Goalie Tyler Olsen continued his stellar season and allowed only 10 goals in the tournament, he was supported by great defensive play by Beck Dietrich, Riley Roelfsema and Gavin Wiebe.  It was ultimately an amazing team effort from all 13 Vipers players during the six games in three days.

The Vipers are now 27-8 and will wrap up their season next weekend with a game at Fargo Friday night and two games at home Sunday.
