JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s and women’s basketball teams each wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon at home against the Dordt Defenders.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: #4 DORDT 82, #19 JAMESTOWN 78

Lots of points in the first half of play on both sides propelled the Jimmie women to a seven point lead at the break. UJ shot 68% from the field and 67% from deep in the first half, only to shoot 36% from the floor in the final twenty minutes. The Defenders relied on freshman Macy Sievers for the bulk of the scoring as she led all scorers with 24 points.

Seniors Hannah DeMars and Kia Tower played their final regular season game at Newman Arena as DeMars chipped in 23 points and seven rebounds to lead Jamestown. Tower had eight points and seven assists in 38 minutes played. DeMars moved into third place all-time for career scoring for the Jimmies, surpassing Jessica Buck for third. Tower moved into a tie with Kyra Dewald for eighth on the all-time scoring list.

The Jimmies women enter the GPAC Postseason Tournament as the #3 seed and will host #6 Concordia (NE) on Wednesday night at Newman Arena. Tipoff is tentatively scheduled for 6:00 PM.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: (RV) DORDT 88, #9 JAMESTOWN 78

Although the final score doesn’t tell how close the game was throughout, the UJ men couldn’t find a groove late in a 10 point loss to Dordt. Jamestown trailed by one point at the break behind 12 first half points for Reid Gastner. The sophomore ended the game with 17 points for Jamestown on five made threes, but the offensive shooting from Dordt was too much to handle.

The Defenders shot 56% from the floor compared to 41% for the Jimmies. Mason Walters paced all scorers with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Luke Rankin led Dordt with 19 points and Jacob Vis collected a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Cole Woodford and Will Cordes had 15 and 13 points respectively for the Jimmies.

UJ holds a share of the GPAC regular season title and is the #1 seed going into the conference tournament. The Jimmies, now 23-5 overall, will take on Hastings on Wednesday night following the women’s game.
