Fargo, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)–Trace Hoggarth finished his senior season with a 7-3  victory over Noah Anderson of Lisbon to win his second state individual title. Hoggarth won the 113 pound title last year and finished his season with a 44-3 overall record winning the 120 pound title. The Carrington boys finished in 10th place overall with 60 team points. New Salem-Almont won their first team title with 193 points and had 5 wrestlers reach the title match, with 3 state champions crowned. Lisbon finished in second place with 164 points, followed by South Border (152), Velva (111), and Bishop Ryan (96).

The Cardinals had 3 other placers for the boys, Corbin Clifton finished third at 138 pounds and finished his sophomore season with a 39-16 record. Clifton defeated Havlin Delong of Northern Lights 3-1 in the third place match. Senior Kael Kovar finished his Cardinal career with a 8-3 victory over Emery Knoll of Bowman County/Beach. Kovar finished in fifth place with the win and a 43-13 record. Unseeded 113 pounder Dru Carr finished in sixth place overall and ended his season with a 31-23 record.

The Cardinal girls also placed 4 wrestlers in the top 8 with Kenedy Wendel leading the way with a third place finish at 135 pounds. Wendel, seeded 7th coming into the tournament went 5-1 at the state tournament and defeated Jeanie Keller (third seed), from South Border 5-3 in the third place match. Wendel finished the season 29-13. Tristan Schroeder, senior at 145 pounds finished in 5th place, defeating Cheyenne Helland of Central Cass 3-1 in the fifth place match. Schroeder finished the season 36-8 overall. Mercedes Lura, sophomore, finished in 6th place at 120 pounds. Lura ended her season with a 32-13 record. Khendra Garcia, freshman at 140 pounds, finished in 7th place and finished the season with a 26-11 record. The Cardinal girls finished their first season of varsity wrestling in 10 place with 71.5 points. Bismarck High won the girls division with 189 points, followed by Minot (169), Central Cass (156), Bismarck Legacy (140), and Grand Forks (95) rounding out the top 5 teams. The Carrington girls will now face Bismarck High in the first round of the dual tournament at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday morning. The dual tournament will finish on Saturday afternoon and all Carrington girls action will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com
