FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Senior Jackson Walters of the Jamestown High School wrestling team claimed his first individual state championship on Friday night at the FargoDome.
Walters outlasted Ty Wiedrich of Williston by a 3-2 decision to win the state title at 182 pounds. The Blue Jays’ lone wrestler to make the championship round made the most of his opportunity and capped his season with a 32-1 record.
Jamestown got third-place finishes from seniors Aden Braun (152), Colton Mewes (170), and Hannah Sjostrom (170). The three seniors suffered just one loss during the individual championships. Jack Schauer (106) took fourth to round out his eighth grade season.
Mackenzie Stoddart (130) and Aleeona Meza (250) both placed fifth in their respective classes. Pete Rasmussen (126), Gabby Romans (155), and Grace Bercier (190) took sixth on the consolation side of the bracket.
The Blue Jay boys wrapped up at 220 with a seventh-place finish from Ethan Gall and Adyn Eckart (160) was eighth. Gall, Eckart, and Schauer were all first time placers at the state tournament. In total, 12 of the 19 Blue Jays who made the tournament made it to the podium. Jamestown took sixth as a team in boys and eighth as a team in girls.
