Dickinson State was not a kind host to the Vikings Thursday night in the conference finale.

Valley City State’s women lost a big lead late, and the Viking men never got out of the blocks offensively. The womenwere beaten 69-64, while the men were drubbed 86-56 to end the regular season of NSAA play.

The Viking women were outscored 22-10 in the fourth quarter, and gave up a 19-2 run after taking a 54-45 lead late in the third. After Ashlyn Diemert started hot, scoring 13 in the first quarter, she recorded just one field goal in the second half.

Hailey Roberts kept the scoring in gear with a 10-point second quarter, finishing with 17, but the effort came up short. Diemert led the Vikings with 19, and Taryn Dieterle recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Viking women.

The Viking women will travel to Dickinson State Tuesday as the five-seed in the opening round of the North Star Athletic Association tournament.

Shooting woes plagued the Viking men for the entirety of the game in the nightcap. Valley City State shot just 33% from the field, and 22% from the three-point line. Duoth Gach led the way with 16 points, having to score inside for most of his damage.

After rebounding solidly for the past three weeks, the Vikings were beaten on the glass by a 51-34 margin.

The Viking men finish the season as the four-seed, and host Bellevue Tuesday night in the opening round of tournament play.
