JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 101st Report to the State from the Northern Lights Council of Boy Scouts of America was presented to Governor Doug Burgum on Wednesday February 15 th.

The State of Scouting is an annual event with the Governor. Nominations are made to select the Scouts that will participate in the report to the state. There are representatives for each rank of scouting. The Eagle rank is the highest rank in Scouting and the Eagle representative serves as emcee of this event.

The emcee was Brayden Motter, an Eagle Scout from Jamestown.

Motter has been in scouting most of his life. He received the Eagle Rank in June of 2021. Motter has spent many years at Camp Wilderness, a camp located near Park Rapids, Minnesota. Camp Wilderness is home to thousands of Scouts and leaders each year.

Motter has worked as a counselor-in-training, and 2 years as a camp staff member as the Fishing Merit Badge Counselor. He has 79 merit badges and 15 Eagle Palms. His goal is to complete 100 merit badges. He has received multiple special awards including Complete Angler, Historic Trails Award, Scuba certification, Mile Swim, and National Outdoor Achievement awards in Aquatics, Camping, Conservation and Hiking.

Brayden is a member of the Order of the Arrow and a registered member of Sea Scouts with Ship 696 out of Fargo, ND. Aside from being an active scout, he is employed part-time while attending high school. He is a member of the Jamestown High School Swim team, the Jamestown High School Choir/ Governor’s Choir and the National Honor Society.

In the report, it was revealed that scouting provided life-building skilled to 1,301 youth ages 11-17. Scout members in the Northern Lights Council earned 4,521 merit badges. 180 youth earned Eagle Scout ranking.

Youth and adults in Northern Lights Council contributed over 40,000 hours of community service.
