MINOT, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A five point game for senior Brooks Roaldson and four goals in the third period propelled the Jamestown boys hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Mandan in the quarterfinals of the WDA Tournament.
Both teams were scoreless after the opening period as the Jays led the Braves in shots on goal at 9-7
Mandan got on the board in the second period before back-to-back goals within the span of thirty second made it 2-1 Jamestown. Nate Walz scored first off an assist from Gavin Gerhardt. Then, Max Mehus gave Jamestown the lead with under four to play in the second period. Assists on the Mehus goal came from Brooks Roaldson and Easton Romsdal. The Braves tied it at two in the late stage of the second to send it to the third even at two.
Mehus recorded his second goal of the game a minute into the third period to give Jamestown a 3-2 advantage. Romsdal and Roaldson picked up another point on the Mehus goal.
One minute later, Jamestown capitalized on the power play as Gerhardt buried his 17th goal of the year. The Jays led 4-2 off assists from Walz and Roaldson.
Jamestown continued to hound the Mandan goalkeeper in the third, as Roaldson snatched a goal and his fourth point of the night with just over 11 minutes remaining. Romsdal added an empty netter late for his sixth goal of the year. Mehus and Romsdal had three points and Gerhardt and Walz each added two.
Andrew Walz had 26 saves in the win between the pipes for the Blue Jays. Jamestown faces Minot in a state qualifier and WDA Tournament semifinal game Friday night in Minot at 5:00 PM.
