VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City School District is back to the drawing board on how they will finance their proposed plan to repair and renovate their existing facilities and maintenance projects.
The school district is repaying for over levying their Building Fund due to a misinterpretation of the North Dakota Century Code.
Superintendent Josh Johnson said the school board is discussing all their options including whether they should place the issue for a vote on a future ballot. He said the estimated cost to make repairs and renovations across the district has risen to more than $35 million dollars.
He said a big part of the plan includes building repairs, remodeling, maintenance, equipment upgrades, security, and safety needs for all district buildings.
Johnson said the estimated construction cost back in August of 2021 was $250 per square foot, today the estimated cost has increased to $412 per square foot. He said the school board will discuss the issue at their next board meeting on February 22nd at 5:30pm in the Central Administration Buildings Board Meeting Room.
