JAMESTOWN, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Today was the final day of the District 5 Girls Basketball Tournament as we know it to be. Below are the results.
Game 1: Oakes 60 – 34 Ellendale
The Oakes Tornadoes took control early in the game and did not let up the pressure. They would jump out to a 37-19 lead at the half and expand onto that lead throughout the second quarter to take a 60-34 victory.
The Tornadoes were led in scoring by Laikyn Roney who went 7/11 from the field and 5/7 from three point land for 21 points. She would be named the player of the game.
The Cardinals were led in scoring by Christena Walker who went 5/15 from the field for 10 points.
The Cardinals end their season going (2-4, 4-17).
The Tornadoes will now play in the Region 3 Tournament for their 7th straight year.
Game 2: Carrington 49 – 23 Griggs-Midkota
The Carrington Cardinals will once again go to the Region tournament after beating Griggs-Midkota. They would have great defense all game long and not allow more than 8 points in the first half of the game. They would lead 27-8 after the 1st half. The second half saw them hold onto that lead inspipte of heavy opposition from the Titans. They would win 49-23.
The Cardinals were led in scoring by Haley Wolsky who went 6/11 from the field and 6/7 from the stripe for 18 points. She was named the player of the game.
The Titans were led by Vanessa Vollmer and Kaylee Johnson who both had 4.
The Titans end their season going (1-5, 3-18).
The Cardinals punch their ticket to the Region Tournament as the 3 seed.
DISTRICT 5 CHAMPIONSHIP: EKM 46 – 32 LaMoure-LM
The Edgeley-Kulm-Montpellier Rebels won their first ever District 5 championship in a tight knit affair against the reigning champions in LaMoure-Litchville/Marion. The Loboes led early and the first half was all defense with neither team able to amount much offense. The Loboes would shoot 50% in the first half to EKM’s 26.1%. They would lead 20-15 at the half as well.
The second half is where the Rebels came alive with Mataeya Mathern scoring 15 in the half to propel the Rebels to their first district win. The Loboes had shooting troubles in the second half only shooting 23.1% compared to EKM’s 52.4%. The Rebels would win 46-32.
The Rebels were led in scoring by Mataeya Mathern who would go 8/13 from the field, 2/4 from 3 point range, and 2/8 from the charity stripe for 20 points. She was named the player of the game.
The Loboes were led in scoring by Addy Smith who went 4/8 from the field and 5/8 from the foul line for 13 points. Tessa Rasmussen also had 13 points going 3/9 from the field all from beyond the arc and 4/4 on free throws.
The Loboes earn the 2nd seed in the District and in the Region Tournament.
The Rebels get the top spot in the District and in the Region Tournament.
