(NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown High School wrestling competed in the WDA Tournament while boys hockey, basketball, and gymnastics prepare for postseason play.
WRESTLING: JAYS PLACE FOURTH, 19 INDIVIDUALS QUALIFY FOR STATE
While the Blue Jay boys wrestling team may miss out on the team duals at state, 12 individuals qualified for the state tournament on Saturday in Williston. Jackson Walters and Colton Mewes won WDA titles at 170 and 182 and Aden Braun took second at 152 due to a medical stoppage. Braun was named the West Region Senior Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Blue Jay to earn that distinction in 20 years. Seven members of the girls wrestling team also qualified for state, led by a fifth place finish from Mackenzie Stoddart. The 19 individuals who qualified for the state tournament begin competition on Thursday at the FARGODOME.
BOYS HOCKEY: JAMESTOWN 6, BISMARCK HIGH 1
Three goals in the second and third periods helped the Blue Jay boys hockey team wrap up the regular season with a big win over Bismarck High. Max Mehus recorded a hat trick in the win and Jamestown also got goals from Gavin Gerhardt, Jackson Maddock, and John Belzer in the 6-1 victory. The Jays head into the West Region Tournament as the #4 seed and face #5 Mandan in the quarterfinals from MAYSA Arena in Minot at 1:15 PM on Thursday.
GYMNASTICS: JAMESTOWN TAKES SECOND IN THROWBACK MEET
Julia Skari’s fourth place finish in the all-around helped Jamestown take second out of four teams in the final meet of the regular season. Emma Hillerud, Blair Arbuckle, and Sutton Van Gilde took eighth through tenth for Jamestown in the all-around. The WDA Championships begin Friday at Dickinson.

BASKETBALL: JAMESTOWN FALLS TO MINOT IN DOUBLEHEADER
The Blue Jay boys suffered a 73-67 loss to Minot High on Friday night at home. Thomas Newman poured in 34 points for the Jays while Darik Dissettee also had 34 for the Magi. Jamestown trailed by 16 points at the break. The Blue Jay boys and girls are 8-9 overall and 7-9 in the WDA. Jamestown’s girls team fell at Minot 80-55. Ella Falk led Jamestown with 18 points.
