JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Day two of the 2023 District 5 Girls Basketball tournament was held at the Jamestown Civic Center on Saturday with three games, here are the results:
Griggs/Midkota 54 Barnes County North 12 (elimination game)
The Bison took an early lead 1-0, but it was all Titans after as they cruise to the 42 point victory and end BCN’s season at 0-19 overall, GM improves to 3-17 overall. GM was led by Ryan Johnson with 11, Kylie Johnson added 10 points and five steals. BCN was led by Jayden Samek with five.
Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 48 Carrington 44, double OT
The fourth seeded Loboes of LLM knock off the number one seed in the tourney and one of the top teams in the state in Class B Girls basketball in the first semifinal Saturday night. RV Carrington led by as many as nine, but for the most part the game was tight throughout, featuring five ties and five lead changes. The Loboes outscored the Cardinals 4-0 in the second OT to get the victory. Tessa Rasmusson had 20 points and Nora DelaBarre added 15 for the Loboes. Carrington was led by Madison Johnson with 15, Olivia Threadgold had 12, four treys. LLM improves to 11-10 overall, Carrington is now 15-5 overall.
Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 55 Oakes 51, OT
No. 9 rated and the two seed in the D5 tourney, the Oakes Tornadoes fall to unrated and three seed Rebels of EKM in the second overtime game of the day. It was another close semifinal game, had several momentum swings, six lead changes and eight ties. EKM led by as many as 12 in the second quarter, but Oakes went on a 19-1 run to take the lead by five towards halftime. Oakes had 30 turnovers, EKM 18. Junior Mataeya Mathern had 17 points, 11 rebounds, six assits and nine steals for EKM, Kiara Jangula added 12 and Libby Mathern had 11 off the bench. Oakes was led by Senior Laikyn Roney with 22 points, Emma Muggli had 14 and Lily Thorpe 12. EKM is now 15-5 overall, Oakes falls to 16-3.
