SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – The eight-game winning streak for the #19 ranked University of Jamestown women’s basketball team came to a close on Saturday afternoon in a 59-56 loss at #23 Briar Cliff.

An extremely physical game on both ends, Jamestown took a 33-28 lead into the half. The Jimmies dealt with foul trouble in the first half and played nearly 18 minutes without Kia Tower in the first two quarters. Despite that, Jamestown’s defense played hard and Sarah Lenz combined with Hannah DeMars for 20 of the 33 first half points.

In the second half, Briar Cliff was able to turn the momentum, taking a 50-42 lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter. The Jimmies and DeMars battled back, going on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to two. Jamestown made it 54-53 but never regained the lead in the final minutes and some late shots didn’t fall in a loss to the Chargers.

Jamestown falls to 20-6 overall, now 15-5 in the GPAC. The Jimmies need one more victory or a loss by Northwestern to secure a home game in the conference postseason tournament. UJ hosts the College of Saint Mary on Thursday and #4 Dordt next Saturday.
