LINCOLN, NE. (NewsDakota.com) – Darin Erstad will have his #17 jersey retired as part of the first-ever group of Cornhusker baseball players to be honored with the distinction in the 117-year history of Nebraska baseball.
Erstad, who played for the Huskers from 1993-95 while also punting for the ’94 football champions, is one of three players who will have their jerseys retired on March 24th against Illinois. Alex Gordon (4) and Shane Komine (28) are also former All-Americans for the Huskers.
Erstad also coached Nebraska for eight seasons, ranging from 2012-19. During his tenure, the Cornhuskers went 267-193-1, winning a 2017 Big Ten regular season title and participating in four regionals.
The Jamestown native was the first Nebraska player to win conference player of the year and hit .410, had 19 home runs, 79 RBI, and a Nebraska school-record 46 extra-base hits in his last year playing college baseball.
