OAKES, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes were unable to get anything going against the Carrington Cardinals, falling by a score of 60-44.
The Cardinals were able to get rolling early in the game jumping to an early 11-4 lead. The Tornadoes weren’t able to get anything going in the first quarter missing several key buckets right in the paint preventing them from catching up early on.
The Tornadoes had a much better 2nd quarter with Xavier Vossler getting 10 points in the quarter. They weren’t able to get caught up however as Jack Erickson and Hudson Shmitz continued their great night scoring 13 and 11 points respectively in the half. The Cardinals would lead 32-19 at the half.
The Cardinals were able to really kick it into gear in the 3rd quarter. Shmitz would drop 8 points in the quarter and Grady Shipman would drop 7. Trey Skoglund would put up 7 points in the quarter as well however the Tornadoes shooting woes would return and they would trail going into the final frame by a score of 51-34.
The 4th quarter was more of the same. The Cardinals did just enough to hold onto their lead and held the Tornadoes to 10 points in the quarter giving them the win by a score of 60-44.
The Bank North Player of the Game for the Tornadoes was named Xavier Vossler who ended the night with 14 points.
The Player of the Game for the Cadinals was named Hudson Shmitz who put up 21 points on the night.
With this win the Cardinals cannot finish worse than 3rd inside District 5 and will play EKM on Thursday for 2nd place. That game can be heard on KDAK the Cardinal.
The Tornadoes are now in a fight for 5th-7th place with Griggs-Midkota and Barnes County North after BCN beat Griggs-Midkota. They play against the Bison on Thursday and if the Tornadoes win they will finish in 5th place on the season and play LaMoure-LM in the District Tournament. If they lose they drop to a tie for 6th with Griggs-Midkota. The game on Thursday February 9th on 1220/100.3 KDDR.
