VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was a historic day today in North Dakota, that quote from Josh Johnson, a North Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Director referring to the vote to move to a Three-Class Basketball plan for the 2023-2024 school year.

NDHSAA Board of Directors voted unanimously to move to a three division basketball plan. However, the vote to implement the three-division plan for the 2023-2024 school year was passed on an 8 to 2 vote. Board members Paul Jundt and board president Dave Schoch voted against the motion to implement the plan this year, during earlier discussions they believed that the plan should be worked on and adjusted for one more year before implementation.

Johnson said the current plan was drafted by a focus group of member schools and subsequently amended and updated by NDHSAA Executive Director Matt Fetsch and the NDHSAA staff.

Johnson believes the new plan will bring positive change not only for our students, but the students, schools, and communities of Barnes County North, Maple River Coop, Litchville-Marion, Enderlin, and Griggs County Central to name a few.

The current two-class basketball plan has been in place in North Dakota since the 1963-64 school year.
