JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public School discussed the handling of procedures during the racial incident that occurred at a recent home basketball game at the latest school board meeting on Monday night.
The incident happened on January 31st during a basketball game against Bismarck. During that game, students made derogatory comments and noises towards two Bismarck high players.
School officials are looking at how the issues was dealt with during and after the game. Jamestown Superintendent Dr. Robert Lech discussed it in a report to the school board on Monday night.
Lech said that through the investigation, the school found that the racial comments were made by a “handful of middle school and high school students that were disciplined according to school policy”.
Lech also stated that the school district reached out to Bismarck High to see if “restorative practices would be desired by the team”.
