VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) Fargo Davies used an overpowering defensive effort to run past the Hi-Liners 89-37 Tuesday night in Valley City.
It was a slow and steady pullaway in the opening half for the Eagles. Valley City had an early 6-5 lead, but Davies buckled down with pressure defense, and an occasional trap, that forced the Hi-Liners into turnovers.
While the Eagles didn’t sprint out into a vast array of quick scoring runs, a 12-0 run that took about six minutes of time delivered Davies a 17-6 lead. They would end the half on an eventual 38-12 run to lead 43-18 at the break.
Mason Klabo, Davies top scorer and a premiere Class A player, took over early in the second half, scoring the first six points of the stanza on his way to 25 for the night. Valley City trailed by 39 halfway through the second en route to the loss.
Carson Eggert and Calahan Burchill led the Hi-Liners with seven points each.
Valley City will face Fargo South in Fargo Friday night.
