JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s and women’s basketball teams extended their win streaks to seven and ten games on Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena with a doubleheader sweep against Midland.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: (RV) JAMESTOWN 76, MIDLAND 50

Kate Busek set a career-high with 19 points as the Jimmie women won its seventh consecutive game on Saturday. Jamestown was rolling early from long, connecting on the first five threes attempted. UJ hit eight of its first nine threes to take a commanding 28-12 lead after the first quarter. Sarah Lenz added 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and Hannah DeMars had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Jimmies finished plus four in the turnover department and plus 15 in the rebounding column. Jamestown ended the game with a 30-12 advantage in points in the paint. UJ went 14-for-45 from deep as the Jimmies improved to 19-5 overall and 14-4 in the GPAC. With the win and the loss by Briar Cliff, Jamestown moves into second place in the conference.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: #11 JAMESTOWN 104, MIDLAND 87

It was senior day for the #11 ranked UJ men’s basketball team as the Jimmies surpassed 100 points for the eighth time this year. Jamestown celebrated seniors Marc Kjos and Mason Walters by grabbing its tenth straight win.

The Jimmies shot 67% from the field in the first half en route to a 62% shooting performance from the floor. Cole Woodford was unconscious from the outside once again, going 6-for-8 from deep, scoring 22 points. Walters led the Jimmies with 29 points and nine rebounds while Kjos finished with nine points.

Will Cordes surpassed 1,000 points for his career on Saturday with 15 points in the victory. Jimmy Llinas had a new career-high for Jamestown, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds. The UJ men are now 21-3 overall and 14-3 in the GPAC. The Jimmie men and women are in Sioux City Iowa next week to take on Morningside and Briar Cliff.
